OpenAI cyber defense pledge draws 130 tech firms

Nearly 130 organizations across cybersecurity, cloud computing, finance and other sectors have signed an OpenAI-led cyber defense pledge calling for a coordinated global surge in security as AI-enabled attacks become more widespread and sophisticated.[1][4][15] The initiative, detailed in an open letter and accompanying action plan, urges companies and governments to move faster on hardening digital infrastructure as threat actors increasingly use artificial intelligence to automate reconnaissance, exploit vulnerabilities and scale campaigns.[1][4][15]

OpenAI, which is leading the effort, outlined specific commitments that include subsidized access to its Daybreak Cyber models for public-sector organizations, nonprofits, open-source maintainers and critical infrastructure operators that often lack the budget for cutting-edge security tooling.[1][4] The company also pledged to support programs that let organizations work with authorized partners to test their defenses using its models and privately report weaknesses, effectively enabling large-scale AI-assisted red teaming for defenders rather than attackers.[1][2][4] In parallel, OpenAI has promised to continue publishing security tools and research findings that help organizations identify, prioritize and verify fixes for vulnerabilities, building on earlier initiatives such as its cybersecurity grant program and trusted-access schemes for defensive users.[3][4][12]
